Zelle came to Vox looking to help raise awareness about financial scams through a series of four explainers describing the science behind scams and using vignettes from real-life situations. We soon realized that rather than trying to tell the story through a purely mixed media approach, we decided to use stylized cel animation. This was not only to distinguish these stories from the explainer, but also keep a lighter approach to the subject, a must for Zelle.
